Who can be affected by IgA Nephropathy?
How common is IgA Nephropathy?
IgA Nephropathy is a rare disease, but the most common form of glomerulonephritis. The worldwide incidence is estimated to be at least 2.5 cases per 100,000 of the population.1 Prevalence varies by geographical region and ethnic origin. Although there are no standardised international biopsy guidelines, biopsy and dialysis registers show that the incidence rates of IgA Nephropathy tend to be higher in Asiatic countries.2

Individuals of any age can develop IgA Nephropathy. However, this form of glomerulonephritis occurs most frequently in persons in their late teens to their late 30s. Men are at greater risk of developing IgAN; statistics show that they suffer from the disease on average twice as frequently as women.3, 4
