Legs itching: why does it arise and how to deal with it?
Itchy feet can occur for several different reasons. Read on to find out what the three most common causes of this ailment are and how to successfully deal with the unpleasant itching.
Foot fungus

Itchy feet can be caused by a form of skin mycosis. Fungus can occur anywhere on the body, but the skin of the feet is very susceptible. In fact, fungus thrives very well on moist and inflamed skin. It can also be caused by leaky shoes or socks made of synthetic materials. The infection can be transmitted, for example, in public showers or fitness centers.
Manifestations
The manifestations of foot fungus include general itching and burning of the affected skin. The skin is red, dry, or cracked. Scales and blisters may appear. Very often the area between the toes is affected. However, skin mycosis can also occur on the edges of the foot and on the soles of the feet.
Treatment
As a rule, topical antifungal medications in the form of ointments are used to treat skin mycoses. However, it should be remembered that treatment can be quite long term. It is therefore advisable to prevent the formation of fungi.
Wear cotton socks, change your shoes during the day and disinfect them regularly. If you go to public swimming pools or fitness centers, wear your own slippers. Wash your feet every day and dry them thoroughly after showering (don't forget to dry the space between your toes).
Varicose veins
Varicose veins can be another cause of itchy feet. These arise because the veins are not working properly. As a result, blood accumulates in the veins and tends to dilate the veins. Most commonly, this phenomenon occurs when the patient suffers from a weakened venous wall, which results in dysfunctional valves.
Manifestations
In addition to the itching, the symptoms of varicose veins include pain and heaviness in the legs, burning, cramping, swelling, hardening of the veins and skin color changes. There may be reddened patches on the skin, inflammation, or ulcers around the ankles.
Treatment
Oral veno-actives medicatiosn like Venoruton can be used to treat chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), which is a common cause of varicose veins, and can also relieve tired and painful legs, cramps and swelling.
For varicose veins, it is also recommended to use special compression stockings, which in a way replace the function of weakened venous walls. An integral part of the treatment should also be a change in lifestyle, such as getting enough exercise, eating healthy and balanced diet, and limiting long periods of standing or, conversely, sitting.
