Weaning and Nappy Rash

If you're ready to start weaning your little one, it may be a trigger for nappy rash – but why?

How weaning can trigger nappy rash

Introducing your baby to solid foods usually starts when your little one is around six months old, and it can be great fun to explore new flavours and textures together. But, around 25% of parents report an increase in nappy rash when weaning their baby. Any change in diet can cause runny stools (poo)*, and no matter how often you change your baby’s nappy, it can be difficult to keep your baby’s bottom clean which may lead to nappy rash.

When to seek medical
advice

  • If the nappy rash doesn't go away within a couple of days.
  • If your baby shows symptoms of a persistent bright-red, moist rash with white or red spots.
  • If your baby has a fever and raised temperature.
  • If you think your baby has developed an allergy to food which caused the rash.
