Magnesium and headache
Estimated Reading Time: 2:00 min.
Headaches occur for many reasons
On the one hand, the nerve cells in the brain can develop excessive activity. Triggers for this can be, for example, stress, alcohol, hormonal changes or sensory overload. Tension in the shoulders and neck can also manifest itself in unpleasant headaches.
What does magnesium have to do with headaches?

Our brain and our entire nervous system need a particularly large amount of energy. Magnesium, among other things, plays an important role here. If the mineral is missing, the nerve and muscle cells can become overexcited. Headache patients therefore have a particularly high magnesium requirement - a deficiency can develop correspondingly easily. This deficiency in turn promotes headaches. Tension headaches can also occur as a result of a lack of magnesium.

What helps with headaches?
In the case of tension headaches, it helps to withdraw and come to rest. Painkillers (read package insert!) can be useful to relieve acute severe pain. Learning and regularly practicing relaxation techniques such as yoga, tai chi, qigong, autogenic training, progressive muscle relaxation, etc. have also proven effective.
