A Change in Diet and Nappy Rash

When making any changes to your baby's diet, like a change in milk or weaning onto solid foods, it can cause runny stools (poo!) which can lead to nappy rash.

How certain foods and changing diet can cause nappy rash

Diet changes can have a big impact on the contents of your baby's nappies; from colour to consistency, that first 'weaning poo' can be a surprise! You might also find that certain foods impact their stools more than others. Typically, acidic foods such as tomato-based products, pineapples and other tart fruits, and citrus juices can cause the most irritation, leading to an upset tummy. Runny stools increase the frequency of needing to change your little one's nappies, so it’s important to care for their silky-smooth skin using a nappy rash cream (our Mitosyl Ointment is on hand to help).

A Mitosyl miracle from us to you

When beginning the weaning process with your little one, why not create a food diary and track their stools against it? This way, you'll know for sure whether it's the butternut squash or pureed banana which is the culprit behind those extra-nasty nappies.

When to seek medical
advice

If your little one is suffering from severe nappy rash or it doesn’t go away in a couple of days, speak to your doctor for treatment. Also:

  • If you think your baby could have a certain food allergy which has caused the rash.
  • If your baby has consistent raised temperature.
  • If your baby shows symptoms of severe nappy rash, such as a persistent, moist, bright-red rash with white or red spots.
